Wash Cat joined our collection at MJ Ballooning in May 2026 and becomes our 16th special shape. Built in 1990 by Thunder & Colt, G-WCAT was made to advertise a type of cleaning mitten. It's our second oldest shape behind G-DIPI and although it has under 30 hours in the logbook, it's now very old and delicate so is retired from flying. Its appearance at the 2026 inflation day was the balloon's first time out the bag for nearly 14 years.
I personally have very fond memories of seeing Wash Cat at the special shape rodeo of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta in 2012 as a 12 year old kid. Amazingly, we now have five of the shapes seen that night in our collection.
We’re pleased to welcome Wash Cat into our collection. While it may not be as striking as some of our other special shapes, it has its own unique charm. Given its age and the years it has spent packed away, it’s showing some signs of wear - quite different from our other shapes. Because of this, it will only make occasional appearances, helping to keep it a rare and special sight.
