Midlands Air Festival 2018
We attended the inaugural Midlands Air Festival from 18th to 20th May at Ragley Hall, Alcester. It was a brilliant weekend full of relaxed, enjoyable flying and the weather certainly helped. Light winds greeted the pilots as they arrived on Friday afternoon and stayed until Sunday evening, which allowed all 5 slots to go ahead! The largest ascent was on Saturday morning where 76 balloons took flight. This event also saw the best display of special shapes the UK had seen since the late 1990s at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta. A particular highlight was the Saturday tether where Action Man, the Piper, Michelin Man and both Bertie Bassetts were inflated. It was so amazing to see these incredible shapes inflated altogether for one last time. Other special shapes that appeared include Iwi the Kiwi, Angry Bird, Yoda, BabyBel, Ronald McDonald, Aston Martin, Busby and the incredible Superbike.
