Today the Bristol Balloon Fiesta have made an announcement regarding the 2020 event, originally due to take place between 6-9th August. Organisers have been forced to cancel the usual event and activities at Ashton Court due to social distancing but are encouraging Bristolians to still look to the skies… “If you can’t come to the balloons, we’ll bring them to you” A ‘flypast’ is due to take place on one flyable morning slot from 1st to 14th next month. This will be a scaled-down mass ascent with balloons flying from a number of different launch sites across the city to increase the chance of everyone catching a glimpse of one of Bristol’s iconic hot air balloons. It will be announced when the launch is confirmed to take place so you can keep a look out from the safety of your own homes and gardens. We’re uncertain as to how many pilots will be participating but it will be mainly local balloons. The launch sites will of course be kept private to only balloonists. A virtual night glow available to watch online is also planned for Saturday 8th August, depending on the weather, which will feature a soundtrack from BBC Radio Bristol and some “special surprises”. It’s so disappointing events such as the fiesta are cancelled this year, the first time in 42 years with no fiesta weekend, but the 2021 dates have been confirmed as Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th August. The morning ascent and virtual glow is certainly something to look forward to!
