August is here again and that can only mean one thing in Bristol: BALLOONS!!
After a long 3 years away, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta returns to Ashton Court from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th August 2022 for 4 days of mass balloon launches, night glows and family fun.
This year's press and community launch took place from 2 sites with 15 balloons lifting from Vassells Park in Fishponds and 12 from Pomphrey Hill in Emersons Green. Members of the public were encouraged to nominate a local green space which they'd like to see balloons flying from a few months before. The organisers and flying committee decided these sites would be best for a surprise launch taking into account the main deciding factor; the wind direction. This side of Bristol, especially Fishponds, rarely sees balloons fly over so it was a real treat for residents braving an early alarm call!
Balloons at Vassells Park included fiesta regulars plus the Paul Smith Signature Stripe 105 operated by Flying Enterprises on its second ever flight and Bailey Balloons' brand new Huboo 105 who are partners of this year's fiesta: G-HUBO, G-PSLT, Thatchers G-CEKS, Gloucestershire Cricket G-GCCC, Taittinger G-CEKS, Bath Gin G-INZZ, Pattersons G-CIHC, Miles Architectural G-MILE, SM Gauge G-GAGE, ABC Flights G-XABC, Fishtank G-CDDN, Bristol Blue G-UWEB, Cameron Balloons G-CKWW, Poplar Insulation G-CLZI and BWS Standfast G-CJRO.

And at Pomphrey Hill: Able Scaffolding G-CMAB, ETS Group G-OETS, Panther G-PAWW, Ben's Tiles G-RECL, Prestige Grounds G-MOWW, Ascent G-CCVZ, Red Box G-CDYL, Creative Developments G-CHXS, Bristol University G-CJXJ, Southern Plasticlad G-CJIH, G-BVEN and G-CJLT.
The balloons flew on a NNE 030/040 direction with most touching down in Keynsham and Hengrove.
