It was announced in July that a special flight over Bristol would be taking place that month, called Sky Orchestra. 7 balloons would play out music while flying above the city, waking up people to a soundtrack commissioned by Bristol Old Vic and members of Massive Attack and Portishead. Despite a number of good opportunities during mid-July, the flight was delayed.
Uploads on our YouTube channel have now resumed. Restrictions have been lifted on the number of people allowed in a basket simultaneously and different households can now be involved with crewing / piloting. This is all with social distancing measures in place and passengers wearing face coverings during flights.
Today (4th July) the government guidelines for hot air ballooning in England change, now allowing up to 6 people to fly in a basket. Previous restrictions allowed balloons only to fly if the pilot and crew involved lived in the same household, which has not been possible for the vast majority of pilots.
We really hope all our followers are keeping safe and healthy in these difficult times for us all. This is a quick update regarding the situation of flying hot air balloons in the UK as of late May into June. Whether you're a pilot, crew or just a fan of balloons, everyone is missing ballooning and it's certainly not the same in Bristol without balloons in the sky.

Well everyone, it’s that time of year again. Bristol and Bath’s hot air ballooning season for 2019 winds down tomorrow on October 31st. It’s been our busiest year ever, we’ve loved it and we hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of the season, plus the Midlands Air Festival and Sky Safari. On the 7th July we made our way to Ashton Court for some evening hot air ballooning action. Winds were light in a westerly direction but with enough wind to safely get across the city. It was a Sunday so we were expecting a lot of balloon teams to turn up and heard of one pilot travelling to Bristol from outside our region to hopefully fly as part of a group. It turned out to be a very special evening...
