We are excited to introduce our very own special shape balloon, which returns home to Bristol after being built and test inflated by Cameron Balloons 21 years ago... It's CAMERON LIPS-90, Joycam Lips! G-LIPS is now owned by myself Matt and friend Tom. It arrives in Bristol with new ARC paperwork and we hope to be taking to the skies very soon. Look out for it around Bristol and Bath plus at selected events. So, a bit of info about the shape. It was built to advertise a now very old looking Polaroid camera called Joycam. Flying Pictures operated the balloon in its commercial days, attending UK events such as Northampton on the launch field with shapes like Barclays House, FA Cup, Bertie and Tesco Trolley, as well as many adventures abroad - the most notable being in Switzerland where skydivers jumped from the basket high above the Swiss mountains. G-LIPS has also flown / tethered all around the world in France (Bourges), Germany (Berlin Love Parade music festival, Bochum), Denmark (Copenhagen), Spain (Madrid, Ibiza), Italy (Imola), Norway (Oslo), Sweden (Stockholm) and Chile. Back home, it never came to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta, although possible it was out the back in its trailer. G-BZBV was its original reg in April 2000, which was later changed to G-LIPS in November that year. More recently it's been seen at the Midlands Air Festival at both Ragley and Arbury Hall taking part in the Nightfire and evening tether slots. It holds an active 90,000 cubic feet of air with giant lips and giant smiling teeth on both sides - you really can't miss it! Three Velcro slots are found in the corners and centre of each lip with 12 slots in total. We arranged a 'secret' evening inflation on 16th June - well, not that secret, at Ashton Court, but we just didn't tell many people. It was inflated in exactly the same spot the very first test inflation took place over 21 years ago, and after travelling the world, its first time inflated in Bristol since that day in 2000. Huge thank you to pilots Craig and Mandy Thompson who will helped us with kit. If you want to see more photos, click here for the full album. Some photos of G-LIPS below from 2000 to 2019. Now onto the next chapter... Photos: Digital 21st & MJ Ballooning When and where will our balloon pop up next? Well, maybe we'll surprise you... Follow us for news on our new special shape!
